How long an outage can run unnoticed is decided by the check interval alone.
Between two checks a service is a black box to us. If it goes down right after a passing check, nobody knows until the next one. The interval is therefore the ceiling on how long an outage can run before anyone hears about it. On the paid plans that ceiling is one minute.
How it works
Every monitor is checked from our servers at a fixed interval. Five minutes on the free tier, down to 60 seconds on the paid plans. An outage is only reported after several consecutive failed checks, so a single hiccup on the network doesn't wake anybody.

From our servers in Germany. The result therefore shows what an outside visitor experiences, and not what your own infrastructure reports about itself.
